About Us

Our Mission

To enhance wellbeing by making creativity accessible to everyone in Nipissing District.

Our Vision

Near North Makerspace is a warm and welcoming creative hub.  Whether arriving with curiosity or with skills to share, artists and makers can tinker, play, and explore.  Through an inclusive culture of making, we foster collaboration and create space for people across generations and communities to find belonging.

Our Mandate

  • Access & Tools: Provide affordable access to equipment, technologies, and studio space for artists, makers, and community members.
  • Skill Sharing & Learning: Support peer-to-peer knowledge exchange, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
  • Community & Connection: Create an inclusive environment where members connect over shared interests, collaborative projects, and informal gatherings.
  • Presentation & Celebration: Offer opportunities for individuals and groups to share, exhibit, and celebrate their creative work.
  • Inclusion & Wellbeing: Prioritize accessibility, and circle-based relationship building and conflict resolution to ensure the space is welcoming for all.

Who We Are

Near North Makerspace is a community hub where artists, makers, and groups can experiment, collaborate, and grow. We especially welcome those who face barriers in traditional arts settings, fostering an inclusive, peer-led culture that makes creativity accessible to all.

Build. Create. Connect.

  • Build – Bring your projects to life through tinkering and prototyping.
  • Create – Explore new mediums, materials, and ideas.
  • Connect – Share skills, knowledge, and community in a welcoming environment.

Resident Partners

The Near North Makerspace is home to resident partner organizations who bring creativity, skills, and community programming into the space. Their presence adds depth and diversity to what the Makerspace can offer, creating more opportunities for connection, collaboration, and growth. We look forward to welcoming additional partners in the future.

Digital Creator North Bay

Located at the back of the makerspace is Digital Creator North Bay, a free drop-in space for youth ages 11–19. Open three days a week after school and Saturday afternoons, it’s a creative hub where young people can explore digital media with the support of artist mentors.

Equipped for 3D printing, coding, graphic design, animation, photography, video, podcasting and more, the space also welcomes teens to hang out, work on homework, or play games with friends.

Near North Mobile Media Lab

Near North Mobile Media Lab (N2M2L) is a non-profit media arts organization in downtown North Bay that supports filmmakers, digital artists, and storytellers across Northern Ontario. Offering access to cameras, audio gear, lighting, and production tools, N2M2L provides affordable rentals, workshops, screenings, and community projects that help artists create, learn, and share their work while building a connected and collaborative media arts community.
